Remote simultaneous interpretation

Are you planning an international video conference, a multilingual webinar or a board meeting at which not all participants are in the same room? We provide experienced remote interpreters and take care of the right technology – from setting up the language channels to the event itself.

Our services are aimed at companies and institutions. We do not offer video interpreting for medical practices, hospitals or public authorities.

Remote interpreting, RSI, video interpreting: what is what?

Remote interpreting – also called distance interpreting – covers all forms of interpreting in which one or more participants are not in the same room. Often it is the interpreters who are connected remotely, from another room or even another continent. Because this usually happens via video conference, the term video interpreting is also common.

The most common form is remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI): interpretation takes place simultaneously, in real time and in parallel with the speech. Consecutive remote interpreting, in which passages are interpreted one after the other, is also technically possible.

When are remote interpreters useful?

Whenever several languages are needed and participants are to take part from different locations:

  • international online conferences and webinars
  • virtual general meetings and committee meetings
  • meetings with international teams
  • training sessions and workshops with multilingual participants
  • hybrid events at which part of the audience joins online

Zoom interpreters: interpreting in video conferences

Zoom offers a built-in simultaneous interpreting function: participants choose their language channel and hear the interpretation in real time. For this to work reliably, the following are essential:

  • setting up and assigning the language channels
  • assigning the interpreters to the languages
  • the right audio settings and participant rights
  • stable connections and clear sound – speakers should wear headsets

On request, we set up the Zoom session. For the first event, we recommend a joint technical test with the interpreters. If you use another platform such as Microsoft Teams or Webex, we will advise you on a suitable solution.

Where the interpreters work

  • Remote: the interpreters work from professionally equipped workstations and are connected directly to the video conference.
  • At your premises: the interpreters work in one of your rooms, for example a meeting room, and are connected from there.
  • In an interpreting hub: several interpreting teams work together at one location with booths and a stable connection – recommended for several languages and longer events.
  • Hybrid: an in-person event with participants joining online and integrated interpretation.

We recommend the solution that is technically stable and organisationally reliable.

Recording and streaming

Virtual events are often streamed or recorded. The copyright in the interpretation belongs to the interpreters; for its use, they grant a right of use and receive a recording fee. See interpreters' copyright.
