Medical interpreters for congresses
For medical congresses, symposia and specialist conferences, we provide medical interpreters who are familiar with medical terminology – with more than 30 years of experience in organising interpreting teams.
Please note: we interpret exclusively at professional events. We do not offer interpreting for patient consultations or community interpreting in healthcare.
Typical assignments
- international medical congresses and symposia
- specialist conferences and continuing education
- product training and workshops in the pharmaceutical and medical technology industries
- audits
Simultaneous, as a team, in the booth
At medical congresses, interpreting is done simultaneously from interpreter booths. At least two interpreters work per language direction; depending on difficulty and duration, teams of three or four are not uncommon. We put the team together and organise the equipment on request.
Why subject knowledge is decisive
Medical interpreting is one of the most demanding forms of interpreting:
- Complex terminology: medical language is extensive and highly specialised.
- Understanding, not just vocabulary: the interpreter has to grasp the meaning, not just know the terms. That requires subject knowledge – conference interpreters specialising in medicine often acquire it during their studies.
- Speed and accuracy: presentations are dense and fast. In simultaneous interpreting, every detail must still be right.
- Confidentiality: audits and internal events often involve confidential data.
Preparation is everything
The better prepared the interpreters are, the more precise the interpretation. Send us the programme, abstracts and presentations as early as possible, at least two weeks before the congress. See preparatory material and our tips for event organisers.
